Chapter 1

This was a very special September evening for Jessica Ferris. Earlier in the day, the sorority that had rushed her that past summer accepted her as a pledge. A freshman in college, she felt odd sitting next to Tony, a cadet officer at the military academy. He was her age and their relationship had spanned the last three years. Chapter 2

Apprehensively, Jessica stood in the receiving line, the warning voices of her parents, Tony, and even her new sorority sisters like verbal specters gnawing at her thoughts. When they had discussed how much and whom she might be dating, her mother had pointed out that since Tony would be away at the academy, Jessica wouldn’t be able to attend some events and functions unless she went alone or dated someone else. Chapter 3

The deep reverberating sounds filtering out of the student union were an audible beacon for those arriving at the Ribbon Dance. Piercing the tranquil night air blanketing the campus, the sustained vibrating sounds offered those arriving a feeling of the exciting, frantic pace being experienced by the gyrating throngs already inside. Flashing strobe lights and a rotating color wheel painted the room’s walls, which pulsated from sounds that one could feel. Continue reading…
